NAT CROWSON

Nat was "drug into" competitive speech and debate when his daughter, Lizz, at the young age of twelve, needed a parent to take her to two regional NCFCA tournaments. When he saw how hard she was trying and how far she had to go, Nat realized the ministry to which the Lord was calling him: to start speech and debate in West Tennessee and, particularly, to coach debate.

The following year, Lizz (with her sister Anna) won first place in policy debate at the Louisiana Open State Tournament and, together, debated at the National Tournament. Lizz and her debate partners won the Tennessee State Policy Debate Championship the next two years in a row. Anna, after debating policy, ventured on to wrestle with the human rights vs. national sovereignty LD resolution. That year, she earned 4th place in LD at Nationals - having only debated for two years. What a proud and satisfying journey for a father/coach!

Nat has been coach to students placing 4th and 6th place in debate at NCFCA national tournaments in 2003 and 2004 respectively, as well as seven 1st place winning debate teams at state and regional tournaments. In addition to debate he has coached National finalists and National semifinalist in Extemporaneous Speaking. One year, co-coaching with his wife Susan, their entire seven-member Extemporaneous team went to Nationals. Nat and Susan started and led the largest speech and debate cooperative in the US from 2001 till 2004, equipping over a 100 students in West Tennessee. Nat is currently co-teaching debate to Christine, his youngest, with Susan at Frederick Homeschool Debate. Nat is enjoying teaching through exercises and looks forward to making a his 'Debate-Lite' exericises available in early 2010. Nat's professional background is a Licensed Practicing Architect for 10 years, and for over 15 years, as an Information Architect designing databases for government and businesses throughout the US. He hopes to one day return to his first love, architecture. Nat enjoys teaching and especially working with speech and debate students, challenging them to reach higher and farther; to think deeper and more thoroughly; to become policy analysts and problem solvers. In addition to debate, he enjoys time with his wife Susan, his three children, Anna, Lizz, and Christine, reading, current events, golf, hiking and other outdoor activities.
